質問：　政治の役割とは？
回答：　一言では言い表せない、難しい問題ですが、個人ではフォローしきれない部分 をシステムとして構築して行くのが、政治の役割ではないでしょうか。たとえば、福祉 、教育、環境問題などでも、個人の役割は大きいですが、どうしても限界があると思い ます。しかし、一人ひとりの力を集めれば、さらに大きな力となると思います。政治の 役割は、そのような一人ひとりの力を結束させ、システムを構築してゆくことだと思い ます。私が「まちづくりごと」と政治を呼ぶのも、そういう観点からです。

Q: What do you think about roles of politicians?
A: It is very difficult to answer. I think one of the roles of politiciansis to make a system by consolidating people's power. A citizen's power is usually small. But if you put their powers together, it will be a great force to change the society. At that time, politicians together with people can make better system and make the society more comfortable.

質問：　地方政治への女性の参加をどう思いますか？
回答：　地方議会議員に占める女性の割合をご存知ですか。3.1パーセントしかいませ ん。全国では３千人くらい都道府県議会議員がいるのですが、そのうち女性はわずか9 0人（1995年現在）。あまりにも少なすぎると思いませんか。この比率が20パーセント、 あるいは30パーセントへと変われば、確実に社会は変わると思います。たとえばこれか らの超高齢化社会では、ボランティアの役割が重要になってきますが、ボランティア参 加者の男女比は、男性２割、女性８割と圧倒的に女性が多いのです。政治の場に女性の 声が反映されなければ、よりよいボランティア体制は築けないのではないでしょうか。 それに女性の政治参加は、地方議会の方がしやすのではとも思います。国政レベルでは 、どうしても政党間の違いが重要になりますが、地方ではそのような違いを超えた連帯 が可能となると思うのです。

Q: What do you think about women's participation in local politics?
A: In Japan women members of local assemblies accounted for only 3.1 per cent or 90 out of about 3000 members in 1995. This is extremely low, isn't this? If women participate in local politics more actively, politics as well as the society must change considerably. Local politics is, I am sure, an area in which women can play a good and important role.

質問：　インターネットを利用する理由は？　マイナス面はない のですか？
回答：　日本のみならず、世界に同時にメッセージを発信できるというのが、インター ネットの最大のメリットだと思います。自分の主張を訴える手段の一つとして、利用し ています。私の考えを、じっくりと知ってもらうことができたらと思います。私のホー ムページでは世界的な発信ということを考えて、事実上の国際語である「ブロークン・ イングリッシュ」の要約も併記しました（「へたな英語でも伝えることが大事」が私の 通訳ボランティアの経験からの信条です）。

Q: Why do you use the Internet? Is there any defect?
A: Through the Internet, I can deliver my messages not only in Japan but also in the world simultaneously. This is one of the greatest merits of the Internet. Thinking about this merit, I make my pages bilingual: i.e., in Japanese and broken English, a virtual international language. It is my credo that trying to communicate with others is more important than silence even if you use broken English.

もうひとつのインターネットの特長としては、双方向性ということがあると思いま す。電子メールの普及で、受け手から発信先へのメッセージの発信も容易になりました 。でも、私にしても、御意見をお寄せくださった方がた全員に個々にご返事をさしあげ るのは物理的にできません。私にも一日は24時間しかありませんから。そこで私は、こ の双方向性をなんとか生かしたいと思い、この「質問コーナー」を設けました。いくつ かの御意見をこの「コーナー」で取り上げさせていただけたらと思っています。

Another merit of Internet is its interactive nature. It is easy for a receiver of my messages to reply to me via e-mail. Yet the problem is that I cannot reply to all letters you send me because I also have only 24 hours a day. That is why I put Q & A section here. I would like to answer some questions from you in this page.

インターネットのマイナス面は、「情報弱者」の問題だと思います。かくいう私も 「情報弱者」みたいなもので、いまは電子メールがやっと打てるくらいです（このホー ムページは学生時代の友人たちに作ってもらっています）。重要な情報がパソコンを持 っていないと手に入らないとなると、問題になると思います。でも、インターネットは 新しい可能性も開くと思います。政治の場では、情報公開にもっと使われてもよいでし ょうし、このホームページを見て、今まで政治に感心が持てなかった人が政治に感心を 持つようになったら、それだけでもホームページを開いた甲斐があったと思います。
There are many people who are not familiar with the Internet, information science and PC. That seems to be a main problem of the Internet. Yet its merit may overcome its defect. For example, if someone who is not interested in politics at all read my pages and begins to think about politics, that will be a good effect of Internet.
